Fitness endeavors of Dr Rupal Mohan

Rupal Mohan

Dr Rupal Mohan, who runs her own clinic, providing Urgent and Family Care in Phoenix, Arizona, started participating in... Half- marathons not too long ago. In Jan of 2011, she first did a half-marathon primarily to keep the high cholesterol under control. Having a family history of high cholestrol, she always followed a strict control of her diet, but was still taken by surprise when a routine examination showed more than marginally high levels. After walking the first half-marathon, there was no turning back for her. She went on to do about six more that year.

Diwali- A Festival Of Light

Here in America, we often get requests from our kids' elementary school teachers to do a presentation on Diwali for the kids in their class. And our elementary-school-going kids love it. We go to their school equipped not only with lot of information on Diwali (all done up in the form of a power-point presentation), but also with Diwali sweets, 'diyas' (little lamps), pictures of Ganesh & Lakshmi and some hands-on activities like painting the 'diyas' and coloring the 'rangolis' (floor art). Our kids are enthusiastic about the event and we're happy to do it!

Ode to Sari

Aishwarya Rai in Sari

The word ‘Sari’ is the first thing that comes to mind when we talk about Indian clothes.  The world knows that. We have seen numerous Americans and celebrities from across the world donned in a sari during their India visit, be it Oprah Winfrey or Paris Hilton. No other garment in the entire world is as intriguing as our Sari is. Intriguing because it is 7 to 9 yards of unstitched material. Intriguing because of the way it is worn, pleated and twined around the body, exposing a women’s midriff.  Intriguing because of the numerous ways in which it can be worn, some say over 50.

Book Review: The Girls Of Riyadh

Girls of Riyadh

'Girls Of Riyadh', by Rajaah Alsanea, is a fictional story of four friends from Riyadh in the popular format of the 'Sex In The City' story line, except that it is set in a land that is far from providing the open freedom that the women in Manhattan enjoy and perhaps take for granted- and that is what makes the novel intriguing and fascinating at the same time.
